Sizes, materials, real vendors, and a script to hand a printer — whether you print at home or send it out. Every price here is a snapshot; confirm before ordering.
Are labels applied to a clean, dry, room-temperature lid before it's filled and frozen — or to a lid already cold and sweating?
If the former: a standard permanent acrylic adhesive on a synthetic (BOPP or polyester) face survives the freezer fine. The expensive "true freezer-grade" question mostly disappears, because the bond forms warm and only has to survive 0°F afterward — which nearly everything does.
If lids get labeled cold, or if condensation is present at the moment of application, you need an adhesive genuinely rated to bond at low temperature to a damp surface — a much shorter, pricier list. Answer this before buying anything — it's the single biggest cost and quality lever in this whole guide.
Three sizes are in play: 2″ (pint lids), 4″ (tub identity label), 6″ (full-info tub label).
Checked across every major blank-label vendor — none carry a 6-inch die-cut circle. The largest stocked synthetic round found anywhere is 4.5″ (OnlineLabels OL5475LP). A true 6″ circle has to be either hand-cut from a full sheet, or custom die-cut by a converter (real, but a one-time tooling charge and a minimum run).
Worth asking Rob directly: does the label actually need to be 6″, or was that an assumption? If 4.5″ carries everything required — and it does, see the geometry below — standardizing on it removes a manual cutting step from every single production run.
Cost reality: a full-sheet 6″ label runs roughly 3–4× the material cost of a die-cut 4″, plus 30–60 seconds of hand-cutting each. That gap is the real argument for standardizing on 4.5″ instead.

A laser printer fuses toner — a plastic powder — onto the label at ~400°F. By the time the sheet leaves the printer, the image is already a melted plastic film with no solvent and nothing for water to attack. Condensation and freeze-thaw cycling don't touch it.
Inkjet ink is a liquid dye or pigment that has to stay on a non-absorbent film surface. Pigment ink (not dye) is required at minimum, and even weatherproof inkjet stock only rates to about −20°F service — a fraction of polyester's −40°F margin. If you have a choice, buy or borrow a laser printer for this job.
A laser fuser is a heated roller running near 400–437°F under real pressure. Vinyl (PVC) and generic "waterproof sticker paper" can melt at that temperature — when they do, the face stock wraps the hot roller and the result is a fuser replacement, often costing more than a consumer printer is worth.
Buy polyester (PET), not vinyl, for laser. Only load stock whose product name or listing explicitly says "laser." Silence on printer type means treat it as inkjet-only. Feed one sheet at a time through the manual/bypass tray, never the main paper stack, and turn duplex off.

No. All three print custom stickers, but none stock a freezer adhesive and their round dies top out around 1–1.5″. There's no 4″ or 6″ round in their lineup and no adhesive selection in the ordering flow. Fine for a proof or a one-off; not the source for production tub labels.
There's no pressure-sensitive label converter on the Western Slope. The real ones are Front Range: Colorado Label & Packaging (Denver), Lightning Labels (Denver), StickerGiant (Longmont) — roughly 4.5–5 hours from Delta. All three ship, and StickerGiant offers local pickup.

The pragmatic play: get a same-week proof from a Grand Junction sign shop to see the art at real size, then place the production order with a Front Range converter or a named freezer specialist.

An earlier version of this project's print sheet said the logo holds up "to about 4 inches." That was measured by eye on a screen, not against the print industry's real 300 PPI standard — and it was too generous. At true 300 PPI:
400 pixels ÷ 300 PPI = 1.33 inches. That is the actual ceiling for a crisp printed logo, on any output method, from anyone.
The larger upscaled files already in this project (1704px, 2556px) do not fix this — they were enlarged from the same 400px source, so they carry the pixel count of a big file with none of the underlying detail. A printer's automated preflight will pass them because the math says 300 PPI, and they will still print soft. Size the logo to ~1.3″ or under on any printed piece until a true vector file exists.
The fix is genuinely cheap. Having the logo redrawn as vector (.ai / .svg / .eps) is typically a one-to-two-day job, often under a few hundred dollars. It removes this ceiling permanently and also unlocks embroidery, vehicle lettering, and screen printing — none of which can use a 400px PNG. Worth doing before, not after, the label order.
Until then: keep the logo small and let large typography and the brand red field carry the visual weight on the 4″ and 6″ labels — a clean wordmark at real size looks more professional than a stretched logo, not less.
The trap: bleed and safe area are measured on the radius, but you build the file by diameter — so the numbers double.

Drift on a rectangle looks like a trim; drift on a circle looks like a mistake. A die landing 1/16″ off-center on a circle doesn't lose an even strip — it loses a crescent, zero at one point and deepest opposite it. The eye catches this instantly on a circle because a circle is the one shape where perfect symmetry is expected.
These labels also get applied by hand, by someone holding a cold tub, and centered by eye. Nothing is competing for space on a 9.75″ lid — use the generous margin. It costs nothing and buys real tolerance for imperfect placement.
Blue Label Packaging, OnlineLabels, and most freezer specialists send free sample packs. Get two or three, stick them to a real 3-gallon lid, run a full week of freezer in-and-out cycling, and pick the winner. That one week of testing settles this better than any spec sheet, and it costs nothing.
Ice cream is a licensed dairy product, not a cottage food — the label copy is regulated. Before committing to a large print run, have CDPHE or Rob's QA contact sign off on the label copy. A rejected label is the most expensive way to learn this, and it's the main argument for staying on cheap home-printed labels until the artwork is approved and frozen.
